Box Rules
1. Arrive early: Arrive early and stay late. Cheer, clap & encourage others. Anything less is to cheat yourself of the experience and to rob others of the gift of your presence and support as part of the community. Besides, if you’re not early, you’re late, and its 10 burpees penalty.
2. Check your ego at the door: Somewhere in the world there’s an athlete warming up with your PB. But keep it close by to drive your competitive juices.
3. Accidents and injuries: Accidents and injuries can happen and usually come as a result of impatience. Don’t be hasty. Slow down. Stay in control. Ask questions. Ask for help if you need it. Remember there is no such thing as a dumb question.
4. Respect the Equipment: EMPTY barbells were not designed to be dropped (neither were dumbbells or kettlebells). We don’t want our toys, our rubber flooring, you or someone else broken unnecessarily.
5. Clean up and put away all equipment after each workout: Clean up sweat, spit, blood, chalk, dirt, vomit, sand, handprints, used tape and whatever else you’ve left behind. If you forget to put away equipment you’ve used for your WOD and leave the building, expect a 10 burpee penalty next time you’re in.
6. Chalk is useful, even necessary: It can also be messy. Use as much as you need but keep the excess inside the chalk bucket because all the extra keeps breaking our vacuum cleaner and it’s difficult to clean up.
7. Control Your Kids: We love kids and they are always welcome to be here, but they have no safe place in our facility. If you bring them YOU are responsible for them. Children don’t fare well when an 80kg Barbell is dropped on them.
8. Bring things to our attention: If you notice that equipment is broken, soap needs refilling, there’s no toilet paper, etc... Bring it to our attention so we can do something about it.
9. Try hard. Effort earns respect. Check your attitude: Grunting, screaming, swearing and other such noises are all welcome and encouraged during a workout. There is such a thing as gentle, quiet strength although most of us haven’t mastered that yet. Work hard. Don’t drag people down with a bad attitude. Please remember that there can be such a thing as too loud, crass or rude – Please be respectful. Any gossiping, bitching, spreading rumours, verbal or physical abuse will not be tolerated and will incur a minimum 100 burpee penalty.
10. Go heavy or go home. The only way to get stronger is to increase the load. Always strive to go a little heavier and a little faster but maintain good form. Never say, “I can’t.” Use of the words “I can’t” before you even attempt something will incur a 10 burpee penalty. When you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done. You have to get out of your comfort zone. Be optimistic, have fun and push yourself to your limits and encourage those around you to do better also.
11. And regarding any burpee incentives.... You MUST pay these out BEFORE your next training session commences. You may cry and whine all you want, as long as we can hear you counting.
